Pruning perennials
Most perennials need to be ‘tidied up’ in the spring (from the start of March). Cut off all the dead stems and remove the dead leaves. Make sure that you do not damage the new shoots. Hedge shears are an ideal tool for this. Evergreen perennials that still look good can be left alone, but if they are ugly you can cut these species off just above the ground as well. They will grow back attractive and healthy of their own accord.
Bamboo
Bamboo is included with both the perennials and the shrubs. The pruning time is not important for bamboo. Remove rampant runners as quickly as possible and then enclose the roots in special bamboo sheeting. Old stems can be cut away.
