Flowering hedges
Natural development
If there is space for a wider hedge and plants are able to develop naturally, a loose flowering hedge is an option in which you can grow all sorts of shrubs. Effectively it becomes a narrow shrub border in which the bushes are planted closer together and may be staggered.
You can use species such as:
- Spiraea (Spiraea japonica and Spiraea nipponica)
- Shrubby cinqfoil (Potentilla fruticosa)
- Kolkwitzia amabilis
- Fuchsia magellanica
- Roses: various species of wild and shrub roses
- Cornelian cherry (Cornus mas)
- Weigela
